Inglourious Basterds (2009)

Inglourious Basterds

The poster for Quentin Tarantino's 2009 WW2 epic Inglourious Basterds was one that I could never quite stomach; the splash of red on the white background was more reminiscent of romantic comedies of the early aughts than tension-laden genre films.

Since a $70 million production couldn't gratify me with its poster, I thought I'd give it a go myself.
I wanted to integrate the three intertwining narratives of the film in the poster — and also deface a real Nazi officer. The gentleman in the front represents the villains; his scalped head hints to the titular "basterds" and their convention of scalping Nazis they'd happen upon; and finally, the spiralling film roll in the background evokes Shoshanna's story.

The Bernard MT Condensed typeface leans more towards the western motifs of the film, instead of the alluding to the more obvious WW2 context.
